Poor IQ Can Get You Sued - Common Law Issues in Information Quality

Daragh O'Brien Daragh O Brien, IAIDQ Charter Member and Director
Vice-President, Publicity and Recruitment
IAIDQ

Thursday 11:00am - 12:00pm

Level: Advanced

There has been much focus on Sarbox and similar laws over the past few years. However, the duty to provide accurate and reliable information is well established in Law already through Common Law duties of care. These have no minimum materiality thresholds, nor do are changes to the rules of the game clearly announced by the SEC in advance. This presentation gives a crash course in some of the core legal principles and then proceeds to map them to best practices in Information Quality to show how the objectives of the law and the objectives of IQ are more aligned than one might think. The presentation also includes some examples of Irish cases to provoke some discussion and thinking on the topics as they might apply in other jurisdictions. Ultimately law is an expression of Society's expectation of conduct. Poor IQ can get you sued.
