Information analysis (data, meta data and process) is a vital part of any successful project but is frequently overlooked in developing a data governance effort. Since many business professionals have difficulty being sufficiently clear about their business requirements, those involved in governance activities must understand the necessity of performing rigorous analysis of the business and its goals, especially for cross-discipline efforts such as governance and stewardship. To elicit valuable business requirements and facilitate accurate implementation of governance needs, a standard requirements gathering and analysis process is essential. This process must include the concepts of governance and stewardship, the methods for gathering and analyzing the information needs of the organization and the requirements for governance initiatives. This tutorial will offer a methodology for discovering and analyzing requirements for data, meta data and process for governance and stewardship. The attendee will gain an understanding of the importance of business data, meta data and process analysis at the start of any governance effort and will see a plan for instituting business requirements analysis within their organization.
