The Art and Science of Data Management Strategy Development

Do you feel that your data management approach is
comprehensive, fully cognizant of your business landscape, flexible
and poised for imminent success? Today you need to adopt a strategy
to ensure that you 'win the war' in the competitive marketplace through
data management. It can be hard to know what that entails. Most studies
and development of strategy have historically come from the military
model. While not a perfect analogy to the marketplace or inside your
business, it pays to examine the essential elements of strategy as it
has been developed through the ages. For example, how do you really
define your mission and know who your customer is? How do you align
the various bits of strategy to become congruent? How do you now when
you have a data management strategy? How can you ensure its effectiveness
when implementing? This presentation will examine some essential strategic
'truths' and apply them to the development of effective data management

Ms. Nichols founded Metaview360 after a successful, 25-year career in developing innovative data and meta data solutions. She has specialized experience in meta data modeling and management with a focus on integration in repository-based environments. During her tenure at Digital Equipment Corporation she was the CASE Program Manager, responsible for setting the Engineering CASE product strategy. In that role she received a Change Leadership Award for her contributions to the Software Engineering strategic planning process. She has assisted dozens of international businesses to implement 'best practice' data management through her consulting in the areas of data integration, data warehousing, meta data management, and information systems architecture. Barbara has frequently presented seminars and written on the topics of meta data management and data warehousing. Conference presentations from 2004 through 2006 have included: Instituting the Meta Data Lifecycle, Data Governance in Action, Data Architecture in Successful Information Systems Deployment, and Meta Data-driven Taxonomy Development. |
