A revolution is coming to how data professionals communicate. Today we network at training events and in small geographically-based groups. We listen to a small set of experts and learn new topics and techniques from the "gurus".

The advent of new technologies and new ways of organizing ourselves is bringing changes to that, however. Social networking, full collaboration, and open source solutions are fundamentally new ways of communication, both in social contexts and among data professionals. Soon we will be able to tap into the collective wisdom of everyone and not be limited to the vision of a few experts.

This presentation discusses these new forms of communication and highlights the strengths and weaknesses that these new methods bring. This is intended to be a thought-provoking insight into ways to build a stronger, more vibrant data management community.
