Federal agencies are mandated to leverage IT investments to transform the government to be citizen-centered and results-oriented. The Federal Enterprise Architecture (FEA) Data Reference Model (DRM) is being developed to guide this approach. The FEA DRM provides a federated structure for agencies intended to identify data redundancies, harmonize data requirements and facilitate data reuse and exchange across the Federal government. The Department of the Interior (DOI) was the first federal cabinet agency to pilot the implementation of the FEA DRM structure. DOI’s pioneering approach uses a ‘top-down’ and ‘bottom-up’ analysis driven by enterprise architecture modernization blueprints and guided by enterprise data resource management governance. DOI’s success is remarkable. With four blueprints completed, DOI identified approximately 100 redundant systems to be retired. DOI received the highest OMB EA scorecard rating and awarded Federal Computer Week’s “Leadership in Government Transformation”, E-Government Institute’s “Excellence in Enterprise Architecture” and Government Computer News' "Promising Practices". In this session, Suzanne will present the following topics:
Suzanne Acar possesses over 20 years of experience in data administration and enterprise data architecture. In the past, she managed various data administration and data architecture projects for the U.S. Information Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Department of Defense. Suzanne is currently the Senior Enterprise Data Architect for the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and leads the enterprise data architecture initiative. She is responsible for defining and implementing an enterprise data resource management program used to produce DOI’s enterprise data architecture artifacts. Suzanne currently represents DOI on Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB’s) Federal Enterprise Architecture Data Reference Model (FEA DRM) committee and she leads the inter-agency team responsible for developing the FEA DRM Management Strategy. She is a member of DAMA and presented at a DAMA National Capital Region meeting.
