In 2005, the Object Management Group, absorbed the
Business Process Modeling Initiative’s BPMN notation as a means
to expand business process modeling and process execution to wider
audiences. The standard is gaining wide acceptance in various communities
such as application development, workflow execution and Services Oriented
Architecture communities, yet data management and architects have had
traditional, proven methods for decades. This presentation will discuss
what the BPMN is vis a vis traditional process notations, the promise
it holds for integrating various IT and business stakeholders and further
what it is not designed to do from the vantage point of a data management
professional.
