Thursday 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Level: Basic/Introductory

Many organizations have embarked upon stewardship and governance programs to resolve data quality and integrity issues and re-establish credibility in IT's ability to manage its company's data. However, there is a distinction between data quality and data usability that is sometimes is overlooked. Just because the data is clean and accurate does not mean it is usable or serves the correct need (contextual interpretation)of the end user. To appropriately establish both quality and integrity (usability) of the data, there are varying perspectives that must be looked at and addressed to ensure the Right Data is provided to the Right Person at the Right Time (the 3 R's). This presentation will talk about:

  1. the Data Governance Framework (Roles and Responsibilities of data stewards and data governors as well as the Executive Committee) and the partnership between business and IT, to implement a Data Governance program.
  2. the role of data architecture, including roles and responsibilities that are a part of a data governance program.
  3. essential artifacts (e.g. business data dictionary, data distribution model).
  4. what NOT to do, when beginning a data governance program.
