Changed
Chief Executive Officer, Simsion & Bowles
&
Graham Witt
Senior Consultant, Simsion & Bowles
Together, Graeme Simsion & Graham Witt recently
updated "Data Modeling Essentials" for the heavily-revised second

The Operational Data Store: An Evolution of the Data Warehouse
Jonathan
Geiger
Vice
President
Braun
Consulting, Inc.
For
all of the advantages of a data warehouse, there are some disadvantages or
limitations that must be answered by another architectural construct of the
Corporate Information Factory (CIF) - the Operational Data Store (ODS).
This workshop discusses the concept of the ODS, its purpose, major
differences and similarities to the data warehouse, the architecture and design
issues, and the implementation tools that must be considered.
With
the knowledge gained from this seminar, attendees will:
Understand what an operational data store is and what it is not
Understand why the operational data store is needed, particularly at companies
that are pursuing Customer Relationship Management applications,
Understand the major differences between the data warehouse and operational data
store, how they interact, and
Understand why the data warehouse and operational data stores are distinctly
separate architectures.
Jonathan
Geiger is a Vice President with Braun Consulting, Inc.
He has been involved in many Corporate Information Factory projects
within the utility, telecommunications, manufacturing, education, chemical,

Knowledge For Action: The Discipline of Spreading Knowledge
Robert
S. Seiner
Publisher,
The Data Administration Newsletter (TDAN)
& Director / Principal, CIBER, Inc
Knowledge
Management has been defined as the discipline of spreading the knowledge of
individuals or groups across organizations in ways that directly impact
performance. Knowledge Management
envisions getting the Right Information within the Right Context to the Right
Person at the Right Time for the Right Business Purpose.
Organizations are made up of communities of interest that, when pulled
together to share knowledge, immediately impact the bottom-line.
Participate
in this 3-hour interactive session with individuals who are already involved
with developing a knowledge architecture and knowledge management “system”
for their company and those who have created competitive advantage and driven KM
portals successfully across the line. Share
experiences, listen to tips and techniques, get questions answered, and plan
your own KM success path during this informal community meeting of knowledge
managers.
Learn
from others how to identify knowledge artifacts, design knowledge processes,
classify knowledge, design portals, and solve cultural issues.
All of these are vital steps in creating competitive advantage through
knowledge management. Bring what you know and plan on taking what you hear back to
work with you. That is what
Knowledge Management is all about.
Robert S. Seiner is the
publisher of The Data Administration Newsletter (TDAN.com), an internationally
recognized e-publication that focuses on the management of data, information,
and knowledge as valued corporate assets. Mr.
Seiner is also a Principal Consultant and the Business Intelligence
Practice Director for CIBER, Inc. in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mr.

What
Is Metadata? IT staff in most
enterprises have a common problem. How can they convince managers to plan,
budget, and apply resources for metadata management? What is metadata and why is
it important? What technologies are involved? Internet and intranet technologies
are part of the answer and will get the immediate attention of management. XML
is the other technology. This workshop will discuss these and related metadata
basics?
